The invention of the bicycle ushered in a new spirit of freedom during the late 19th century. Urban transportation became easy, fast and accessible. The Golden Age of Cycling reached its pinnacle in the mid 1890s—the heart of the Belle Epoque. The mood and spirit of the time could be described by the French term "Joie de Vivre" which, when loosely translated, means "Joy of Living." The newfound freedom of the bicycle, a benchmark for this innovative period, was communicated through beautiful posters created for each bicycle of the day. Today, the Cycles Gladiator wines, made from the finest vineyards from throughout California, each bear a replica of a poster that was created at this liberating time.
